New leaks expose mass doping use by American Olympians

In the months before the Olympics, the US Anti-Doping Agency USADA received requests for medical tests by American athletes who were preparing for Rio 2016, according to German magazine Der Spiegel Thursday based on information leaked by hacker collective Fancy Bears.

The hacked emails show that many athletes suddenly wanted to use the so-called Therapeutic Use Exemptions, a program that makes it possible to use products against asthma or inflammation with consent of the authorities the

On June 30, an employee of USADA reported in an email:

“It doesn’t stop. I get requests for prednisone from swimmers and athletes who are now engaged in the trials.”

Prednisone is an anti-inflammatory that is used inter alia for rheumatism and on the banned list.

“It is not normal how many requests we get now. Much more so than for London 2012.”
